Albers graduate and Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, ’18, of the Detroit Tigers joins four Mariners selected to the MLB Midsummer Classic.
Congratulations to Albers graduate, Detroit Tigers ace and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner . It is the second-straight year that Skubal made the all-star roster and this year he led all AL starting pitchers in player all-star voting.

During his time as a Redhawk Skubal overcame injury early on to achieve considerable success. He set SU records for career wins, lowest ERA for a starting pitcher and opponent batting average and ranked second in career strikeouts. Skubal wrapped up his college career with a 21-7 record as a starter. In his senior season he logged 80 innings with 106 strikeouts and 56 walks before the Tigers drafted him in the ninth round—departing SU as the highest drafted player in the program’s history. And in 2024 was inducted into the SU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Last year, in his fifth full major league season with Detroit, Skubal won the American League Triple Crown, leading the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts, en route to being named the league’s best pitcher.
Baseball’s Midsummer Classic begins at 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, at Truist Park in Atlanta.
