Biography

I am a Teaching Professor in English, Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, and Co-Chief Faculty Editor of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Undergraduate Research Journal (SUURJ).

Background: I hold a B.A. in Political Science from a small liberal arts school, Rockford University. As an undergraduate, I spent a semester abroad at British American College, London and interned in the British Parliament. After graduation, I worked in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. before returning to graduate school to study English. I received my M.A. in English Language and Literature from Western Illinois University, where I also began my teaching career. At ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, I enjoy teaching courses in the Core, including academic writing, creative writing, and a course on music and literature. I am a creative writer and Jack Straw writer alum. Outside of academia, I have written and performed on a range of music projects.

Teaching and Research Interests

I am a Senior Instructor in English. My primary interests are in teaching and service that relate directly to our students’ experiences at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. My background is primarily in rhetoric and composition, and my areas of interest include topics that relate to our Northwest community, dismantling racist systems, power and privilege, diversity, and inclusion. I teach several thematic writing courses in the Core, including, UCOR 1100, The Rhetoric of Art for Social Change; UCOR 1300, Writing ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ: Local Narratives; and UCOR 1400, Literature and Music: Songs of Resistance.
